William Mokrynski is a Canadian photo-based media artist, situated in London, UK. He studied new media and photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada, and is currently completing his MFA at the Edinburgh College of Art / University of Edinburgh.
In his recent work, Mokrynski uses the camera to explore utilitarian “interventions” within the everyday built and parkland space; architectural entities which provide for contemporary societal needs of convenience, security, and rejuvenation. Past and ongoing work uses photography and video as mechanisms for the fabrication of memory-scapes; visual stanzas triggered by the juncture of past and present while travelling through the landscape.
In addition to photography Mokrynski works with sculpture, paint, electronic media, and video. His work is included in private collections in North America and Europe, and has been featured in EYEMAZING Magazine out of Amsterdam. As an educator, Mokrynski has lectured and conducted photo-based workshops in Canada, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain.
